Can you imagine how our forefathers would bring Industrial Revolution in the world had they not known about the electrical wires? There was no method of transmitting electricity without wires (although it is still in infant phase to transmit electricity through the air without using wires). There was no way they could offer us what they offered us. No matter how many steam engines they would produce, no matter how much advancement they could do in wheels and motor cars, they would not have developed it without wires.

Since then, advancement has been made regarding the transmission as well. In this process, wires have been developed a lot. In its initial phase, the electrical wires faced a lot of issues like rapid loss of electricity due to transmission and wearing and tearing down of wires in extreme weathers.

ZHFRWires

One of the major outbreaks in electrical wiring technology is the introduction ZHFR house wires. These wires should be used in densely populated areas to maximize safety in skyscrapers. The zero halogen formula of ZHFR (Zero Halogen Flame Retardent) does not produce acidic gasses hence making it non-toxic. It has been evident that many of the fire victims were caught in the fire because of toxic gasses being produced from conventional wires. Moreover, ZHFR wires can resist flames and it can be resistant to even very high temperature.  This makes ZHFR wires safe from fire safety perspective. These wires need almost no maintenance as it is weather proof non-corrosive wires.

FRLSWires

There were no materialistic needs in the past. So, conventional wires could perform the desired work. But nowadays, every other house has at least an AC, a geyser, and of course, an oven. These all take high loads and hence making PVC conventional wires unsafe to use. In a case of an unfortunate fire, it becomes very difficult to firefight in the smoke. The latest FRLS technology reduces the smoke in case of fire by 50 percent. Moreover, FRLS Wires prevent the spreading of fire in the house.

Thermoplastic Sheathed Cable(TPS)

These wires are commonly used in residential areas. These are cheaper than ZHFR and FRLS wires. TPS wires have an outer covering of Polyvinyl Chloride, in short PVC that avoids electric circuit due to touching of the conducting part of the wires. The inner part of Thermoplastic Sheathed Cable consists of annealed copper that increases conductivity manifold. The use of annealed copper inside the PVC sheath not only increases the conductivity of the wire but it reduces the loss in electrical power transmission as well.

The wires have been made as efficient as possible for transmission of electrical energy. Engineers aim to produce zero percent electrical loss wires at a low cost. Superconducting wires have been in use in some scientific studies and some commercial sites but due to its high-cost factor, superconducting wires have not found a place on the shelf of the electrical market. Innovations have been brought out by several electrical companies to bring the most effective wire at an affordable price.

Is Solar Energy a solution?

Science has been developed to such extent that we can cease the compromises made with the welfare of nature. Installing small solar modules on each street light will not only make each street light self sufficient to glow but it will save the cost of electricity transmission through wires. Similarly, replacing conventional lanterns with solar based CFL lanterns can save you from spending money on Lithium cells. You just have to place solar based CFL lanterns under the sun to enjoy the bright light in the night. Since the advancement of technology, solar based LED lanterns are becoming more efficient than the former.

Switching to solar energy even in our homes will bring us far away from being dependent on non-renewable resources. Solar home lightening system can be used at home to reduce our dependence on electricity generated from coal and other non-renewable resources.

Is Solar Energy a reliable source?

This is not a reliable source, of course. When we will switch our dependence on the non-renewable source, we would be relying on the Sun. Everything cannot be replaced by Solar as if it happens, there would be no electricity on a cloudy day. But since scientists and engineers are working towards the advancement in technology, the solar energy can even be stored nowadays. Solar energy can be stored in rechargeable batteries and due to further constant improvements in storing it, solar energy is rapidly heading towards being a reliable source of energy as well.

Solar energy is indeed energy of future: it is free and is present in ample amount. If the cost of manufacturing solar products is cut down and it is made a reliable source of energy as well, those days are not far when we would see thermal plants being shut down before our own eyes. Imagine the world to be greener and cleaner without smoke being gushed into the atmosphere like a poison. Imagine the fresh breath we would take every morning and every night. Indeed, electricity from solar energy can be a technology that we can gift to our next generations to come.
